Hemming 101: Learn to Hem Your Own Clothes
Monday, November 16 | 4:00–6:00 PM
Hemming is one of those sewing skills that looks simple—but takes practice! In this beginner-friendly, hands-on workshop, we’ll introduce you to the basics of hemming and help you build the skills and confidence to practice on your own.
During this 2-hour class, you’ll learn:
-
How to measure and mark a hem
-
How to pin and prepare fabric for hemming
-
Basic machine-sewn hemming techniques
-
How different fabrics behave when hemming
-
Tips for keeping your hems even and consistent
-
When a hem may require a more advanced technique
We’ll practice on different fabric samples so you can see how hemming can change depending on the material.
Students are also welcome to bring one simple garment from home—such as a pair of pants, skirt, or dress—to work on if time allows.
This class is designed to introduce you to hemming techniques and give you hands-on practice. Hemming is a skill that takes time and practice to master, and more complicated garments, fabrics, or specialty hems may require additional experience.
Sewing machines and basic supplies are provided.
Skill Level
Beginner friendly. Basic sewing machine experience is recommended.
What to Bring
Bring one simple garment you’d like to practice hemming, if desired.
